Key Principles of Effective Deck Staining in Newton

In Newton, MA, staining your deck correctly is vital for its appearance and durability. At JK Painting Service Corp, we emphasize the importance of choosing the right stain. The weather in Newton can be harsh on decks, and the wrong type of stain can lead to peeling or fading. It’s also crucial to prepare your deck properly. Cleaning and sanding the deck ensures the stain sticks evenly and lasts longer. We often see decks in Newton with uneven or fading stains because of poor preparation.

Applying the stain correctly is another crucial step. The weather should be dry but not too hot, as extreme temperatures can affect how the stain dries. It’s essential to apply the stain evenly to avoid streaks and patches. Many homeowners in Newton rush this part, leading to less-than-ideal results. At JK Painting Service Corp, our experts use a careful approach to ensure a smooth and even finish.

Finally, maintaining your stained deck is important. Regular cleaning and touch-ups can extend the life of the stain. In Newton, decks can face a lot of wear and tear due to the weather. At JK Painting Service Corp, we advise how to keep your deck looking great for years.

Avoiding Common Staining Errors in Middlesex County

In Middlesex County, we see a lot of mistakes in deck staining projects. The most common is not waiting for the wood to dry completely before staining. If the wood is damp, the stain won’t stick properly, leading to issues like mildew. It’s essential to let the deck dry after washing or rain. Another mistake is using the wrong type of stain. In Middlesex County, the weather can be harsh, so choosing a durable, appropriate stain is crucial.

Applying the stain incorrectly is another common error. Too much stain can make the deck sticky and uneven, while too little won’t protect the wood adequately. It’s important to apply the stain in thin, even coats and let each coat dry before adding another. This careful approach is time-consuming but essential for a professional-looking finish. At JK Painting Service Corp, we often help homeowners in Newton, MA, who have tried to do it themselves and ended up with disappointing results.

Finally, not maintaining the stained deck is a mistake. Even the best stain job needs regular upkeep. In Newton, decks can degrade quickly if not looked after. Regular cleaning and reapplication of stains when needed are important. At JK Painting Service Corp, we’re always available to provide maintenance tips and help.

Have a question?

Newton was originally part of “the newe towne”, which was settled in 1630 and renamed Cambridge in 1638. The first English settlement of what is now Newton began in 1639. Roxbury minister John Eliot persuaded the Native American people of Nonantum, a sub-tribe of the Massachusett led by a sachem named Waban, to relocate to Natick in 1651, fearing that they would be exploited by colonists. Newton was incorporated as a separate town, known as Cambridge Village, on December 15, 1681, then renamed Newtown in 1691, and finally Newton in 1766. It became a city on January 5, 1874. Newton is known as The Garden City.

In Reflections in Bullough’s Pond, Newton historian Diana Muir describes the early industries that developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in a series of mills built to take advantage of the water power available at Newton Upper Falls and Newton Lower Falls. Snuff, chocolate, glue, paper and other products were produced in these small mills but, according to Muir, the water power available in Newton was not sufficient to turn Newton into a manufacturing city, although it was, beginning in 1902, the home of the Stanley Motor Carriage Company, the maker of the Stanley Steamer.

Newton, according to Muir, became one of America’s earliest commuter suburbs. The Boston and Worcester, one of America’s earliest railroads, reached West Newton in 1834. Wealthy Bostonian businessmen took advantage of the new commuting opportunity offered by the railroad, building gracious homes on erstwhile farmland of West Newton hill and on Commonwealth street. Muir points out that these early commuters needed sufficient wealth to employ a groom and keep horses, to drive them from their hilltop homes to the station.
